My June dress for 12 outfits is a party dress. My birthday is in June, and the original idea was that I would be able to wear it for my party. Unfortunately I always forget that the week of my birthday is insane. My birthday is June 18, my mom’s is the 13th and I have friends with birthdays on the 10th, 11th, 14th, and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Oh, and Father’s Day was the 17th. I cut the fabric out for the bodice the week before and then looked at my schedule. There was just no way I was going to be able to squeeze all the sewing in intime.
Every year my apartement throws a big garden party in August. Sometime over the weekend (when I was out of town) I decided that I would try to sew the dress for that party. Last night I popped into The Workroom and by chance found the perfect voile lining fabric. I have an invisible zipper in the right colour, and I even own an invisible zipper foot for my machine. I sewed up the bodice darts and shoulders and tried it on. It looks prety good, so I am forging ahead. Tonight I’ll cut out the lining and get going on that.
The dress pattern is one my mom made for me based on this dress from Anthropologie that I got a few years ago. I really love the dress, and my mom is working on another wool one for me. I like the way the bodice fits, so I went with that. I won’t put the collar on, and I’m going to do a gathered skirt with pockets in the side seam instead of welts.
Did I mention that I teach tonight until 9? Or that I don’t own a serger and am worried about the seams? There may be a field trip to visit my mom’s serger in my near future.
Between work and teaching I am totally going to go to the ribbon store and find a matching ribbon for a bow. All party dresses need bows.
