The time has finally come for some deer to come peeking out of the woods! These little mittens have been hiding on my hard drive for quite some time, and I am so excited to get them out into the world!

These little beauties combine Latvian colourwork designs with a little patterning twist. The back side of the mitten is a traditional overall motif I found in Lizbeth Uptis’ book “Latvian Mittens”, while the palm pattern has a deer antler hidden in it. I think that it is extremely important to keep a little whimsy around on those long cold winter days. It’s okay to sometimes want to be like a deer, and antlers are pretty much the coolest accessory ever. Just like a deer, the antler motif blends into the background, yet stands out when noticed.

Thank-you so much to my friend’s Nick and Stina for putting up with my desperate last minute calls to photograph and model in these photos. Sometimes you have to jump to when the snow falls!
As usual the pattern is available from Ravelry with no account necessary for $5. Just click the handy little button below.
